This is a rare Japanese garage kit model and few were exported outside Japan. I purchased it in 2004 from GK Scale Models and Figures (Illinois, USA; now closed). The significance of this model s twofold: it's the first "natural bone" reconstruction and the first to include gastralia (belly ribs). The detail is spectacular and it is still the best T.rex model ever made. It is of its time however and new discoveries have meant that some details are now incorrect. For example, the model does not include a furcula (wishbone) or the vestigial third finger. The hands are pronated (palm down) whereas they should adopt a "karate chop" position. The breastplate and linking "rib gastralia" are also inventions I believe, but were obviously inspired by the skeleton drawings of Gregory Paul (who revolutionized dinosaur skeleton articulations at the time). |
