Plates and Spines

Individual dermal plates are traced from the reference diagram onto cardboard, labelled, then cut out. 

Top layer is peeled off for a rough surface.

Superglue is used to harden paper cutouts.

Epoxy putty is spread over each cutout and sculpted to shape. A toothbrush smoothes out the finish.

Here the final set of dermal plates is shown ready for mounting onto the spinal column. As they "float" above the skeleton they are supported by wire rods, with the smaller plates strung together on a single wire for ease of mounting.
